India vs Australia Live Score, 2nd ODI: Marauding SKY takes spotlight as India eye 400

September 24, 2023

India vs Australia 2nd ODI Live Score: KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav have continued to punish the bowlers after centurions Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer fell.

India vs Australia Live Score, 2nd ODI: Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill pummelled splendid centuries as India knocked the stuffing out of Australia in the 2nd ODI at Indore's Holkar Stadium. First, Iyer creamed a fine century - the third of his ODI career before cramps and fatigue got the better of him. Despite getting a reprieve, Iyer perished for 105 but not before adding a 200-run partership with Gill, who not too long after, completed the 6th century of his ODI career but perished soon after.

After Australia stand-in captain Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bowl against India, Josh Hazlewood struck in his second over to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply. Iyer, walking in at 3, started briskly, smashing four boundaries in 11 balls and brought up the fifty partnership with Gill in just 29 deliveries. With India reaching 79/1 in 9.5 overs, rain stopped play, but fortunately, it did not last long as bright sunshine returned in no time.

The clock is ticking as the World Cup draws near. India have been consistently impressive in every aspect, and the outcome of the first ODI against Australia on Friday further exemplifies their proficiency. With the series still up for grabs and considering their current form and the outcome of the Mohali game, India finds itself with an excellent opportunity to establish an unassailable 2-0 lead today in the 2nd ODI at Indore.

However, more importantly, this is the final opportunity for players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav to make a lasting impression before the return of senior players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav for India's last official match before the World Cup. Shreyas, in particular, is eager to find his form after missing out on a flat track in the previous match. Designated as India's number 4, Shreyas' fitness was a topic of discussion during the Asia Cup, and he has been unable to spend significant time at the crease due to various reasons. A back spasm kept him out of the business end of the Asia Cup, and an unfortunate run-out ended his brief 8-ball stay in the center. Shreyas hopes to score big in the upcoming two games to boost his confidence and that of his team leading into the global event.

Ashwin made a tidy bowling comeback but struggled to trouble Australian batters on a flat track. He couldn't generate much turn, and his flatter deliveries were easily dealt with by the opposition. While the champion spinner still has a chance to make a last-minute entry into India's World Cup squad if Axar Patel isn't fit in time, the team management expects more from the 37-year-old than what he delivered.

India managed to secure a comfortable victory in the first ODI, even in the absence of four top-tier players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. They now stand in good stead to clinch the series at the Holkar Stadium, known for producing high-scoring encounters. After enduring unusual heat and humidity in Mohali, the players will welcome the respite brought by recent rain, which has lowered the temperature. While the previous game had several positives for India, notably the performances of Mohammad Shami and Suryakumar Yadav, there are still some questions that need answering as the World Cup approaches in early October.

Australia, like India, was missing key players in the opening match, including Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Josh Hazlewood. Captain Pat Cummins hinted that they might be ready by the third game in Rajkot on September 27. Australia had previously won a series in India earlier this year but now finds themselves in a must-win situation on Sunday. While Josh Inglis showed promise with a run-a-ball 45, the middle-order needs to find more consistency.

Here are some pointers regarding 2nd ODI between India and Australia:

- Shubman Gill scored his 6th ODI century and the fifth of this year.

- Shreyas Iyer notched up his 3rd ODI century before departing for 105.

- Rain stopped play with India on 79/1 in 9.5 overs. Shreyas Iyer unbeaten on 34 and Gill 32.

- Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill added a rampant fifty-run stand off just 29 balls.

- Josh Hazlewood dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply to give Australia an arlybreakthrough.

- With Pat Cummins rested, Australia stand-in captain Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bowl.

- India are without Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested for the 2nd ODI but will return for the final game on Wednesday.

- The 2nd ODI at Indore is being looked at as a high-scoring contest given the short boundaries of the Holkar Stadium.

One last chance for India and Australia to tinker before big guns return

India will be seeking more runs from their middle order, while Australia look to fill a Travis Head-shaped hole in the squad

Big Picture: Last dance before big names return

With key senior players from India and Australia set to slot into their respective XIs for the third ODI in Rajkot later, Sunday's fixture in Indore is perhaps the final chance for any fringe player to make an impression.

Australia's situation is a tad more complex than India's. Travis Head's injury has left a gaping hole in their squad, and even though Marnus Labuschagne looks best set to be his replacement on form, Australia have other left-field options. With a bunch of allrounders now part of Australia's set-up, there are many ways they can line up come the World Cup, depending on conditions and oppositions, and Indore will be part of that experiment.
Also part of their agenda will be to get their batting performance right. In Mohali, six of their top seven reached at least 29, but only David Warner reached fifty. However, they'll know the wickets were a combination of incisive fast bowling from Mohammed Shami and a few fortuitous moments going India's way.

But, every strong team at the World Cup will have a Shami equivalent, and therefore a second consecutive jolt against India's fast bowlers will be a sign of worry. Mitchell Marsh, in particular, would want to settle himself in Indian conditions as the opener. Josh Hazlewood's possible return will also boost their bowling.

For India, it will be another opportunity to weigh out the benefit of three frontline fast bowlers versus the combo of two quicks and one seamer. Shami was sensational in Mohali with his five-for, but Shardul Thakur went wicketless for 78 runs. In the grand scheme of things, these are good problems to have, but the downside of too many choices is that the odds of making a wrong choice are also higher. R Ashwin's bowling will also be a key subplot.

As for the batting, Mohali couldn't have been any more clinical, with four of their top six getting half-centuries. India could try to push Ishan Kishan as opener instead of Ruturaj Gaikwad, but apart from that, their best-case scenario is more runs from the middle order. There will be special emphasis on Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav, the latter having just scored a fifty of his own in Mohali.
In the spotlight: Iyer and Labuschagne

It has been a tortoise and hare race between Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. At the Asia Cup, Iyer slotted into the middle order before Rahul after both recovered from their respective injuries. But Iyer's subsequent back spasm opened a door for Rahul that he has grabbed now with three significant scores in four innings. Iyer, meanwhile, is now racing to prove his fitness and form, and the run-out for only 3 in the first ODI would have frustrated him immensely.

With an average of nearly 57 in the five ODIs in South Africa and a solid 39 against India only stopped by a stroke of misfortune in the first ODI, Marnus Labuschagne has done pretty much everything right since needing to come into the playing XI only 16 days and six games ago. His ability to find ways to keep the runs coming through the middle overs is unique, and here in lies another chance for him to show his worth.

Team news: Hardie for Stoinis?

India could rest Jasprit Bumrah and have Mohammed Siraj partner alongside Shami. They could also look at bringing in Washington Sundar. Kuldeep Yadav is rested for the second game as well.

India (possible): 1 Ruturaj Gaikwad/Ishan Kishan, 2 Shubman Gill, 3 Shreyas Iyer, 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 KL Rahul (capt, wk), 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Washington Sundar, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Mohammed Siraj/Jasprit Bumrah.

Marcus Stoinis is unlikely to play back-to-back games, so allrounder Aaron Hardie could slot in. If Australia want to go a little light on batting, Hazlewood for Stoinis is also possible. Alex Carey is set to don the gloves again, but it may not necessarily be at the expense of Josh Inglis.

Australia (possible): 1 David Warner, 2 Mitchell Marsh, 3 Steven Smith, 4 Marnus Labuschagne, 5 Cameron Green, 6 Alex Carey, 7 Josh Inglis/Aaron Hardie, 8 Pat Cummins (capt), 9 Sean Abbott, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Josh Hazlewood.
Stats and trivia

Shubman Gill is the only batter to hit four or more ODI centuries in 2023. His average this year is 70-plus and his strike rate is 104.84.
In 42 innings, Shardul Thakur has conceded at least seven per over 14 times - that's once every three games.
With a 4-5 win-loss record so far, Australia have lost more ODIs than they have won in 2023.

India vs Australia: Everyone talks about Mohammed Shami’s wrist position, but very few know how he gets it right, says his childhood coach

September 24, 2023

On a day where Thakur leaked 78 runs in 10 overs, Shami returns with figures of 5/51 in the first ODI vs Australia.

Before the T20 World Cup in Australia last year, Pakistan Cricket Board shared a video where Mohammed Shami can be seen sharing tips to Shaheen Shah Afridi at the sidelines of a net session. “I have been following you since I started bowling and I am a big fan of your wrist position,” Shaheen had said to Shami. All of those traits Shaheen was talking about Shami’s upright wrist position were visible on Friday afternoon, when he bagged 5/51 in the first ODI against Australia.

Mohali is certainly not Edgbaston or Manchester and over the years, it has turned into one of the flattest tracks in the country. Friday was no exception as on a batting-friendly surface, Shami swung the ball both ways and sent a timely reminder as to why he should be starting every game at the World Cup.

He started off with a loosener which was slapped past a deep backward point by Mithcell Marsh. Two balls later, Shami the magician, sent down an ideal out-swinger that Marsh had no answers to. It was the classic Test match length, one that Shami relies so extensively on, that undid Marsh. As he got one to land around the off-stump channel, Marsh had no choice but to commit to playing it. But this one from Shami landed on the seam and moved just enough to take the outside edge and Shubman Gill at the first slip, accepted the catch gleefully.

ALSO READ | Mohammed Shami, the survivor: How his junoon helped him overcome injuries, accident, personal loss and vitriolic trolling

The best was yet to come. David Warner, who always finds it difficult against Shami, was all at sea again. The Australian was hardly using his feet and was seen tamely caught at the crease, pushing and prodding. As Shami repeatedly beat the outside and inside edge, the frustration was beginning to build on Warner as he even made a futile attempt of charging down the ground. Warner faced 11 deliveries from Shami and managed to score just a single.

Shami’s incredible seam position has been the standout feature in his bowling, courtesy his wrist position. His childhood coach, Mohammed Badruddin, explains his ward’s hard work behind his immaculate art, on which he has worked on for the past twenty years. “Every day he will take one old ball home. His father once showed me the stain of red balls on the wall in front of his bed. He used to throw the ball and then will catch it just to perfect his wrist position,” reminisces Badruddin.

“How many balls have lost its shape. Everyone talks about his wrist position, but very few people know about the work he has put in to perfect it. I have seen so many bowlers with good wrist positions, but it won’t be the same after a while. The reason is they don’t work hard to perfect it,” he says.

After his initial burst (4-1-16-1) in extreme hot and humid conditions, where he bowled at full steam, Shami took a breather. And by the time the 33-year-old returned for the second spell he looked totally charged up again as he cleaned up Steve Smith, who was beginning to threaten India, with a nip-backer, which took the inside edge and rattled the stumps. And off the last ball of his second spell, he nearly had Cameron Green, who almost chopped on thanks to the late movement which left the Australian in two minds whether to leave or play.

Apart from his ability to take wickets with the new ball, Shami also prefers bowling with a slightly old ball as it brings reverse-swing into the equation. On a day where India rested Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur ended up on the expensive side giving away 78 runs in the 10 overs he sent down, Shami made another compelling case for his inclusion.

Though he is very much part of the plan, India are not prepared to field all three of Shami, Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah together as it would leave them with a long tail if one factors in Kuldeep Yadav as well. It is the reason India have been preferring Thakur over Shami, even though the former doesn’t always finish his quota of 10 overs. There is also the other concern around Shami, who is known to be expensive at the death that even at the IPL, Gujarat Titans preferred to use him mostly with the new ball.

At Mohali, Shami showed he is not that bad at death. For a bowler, who rarely uses his variations at the death, Shami used the slower deliveries to good effect. When Marcus Stoinis smoked him for consecutive boundaries in the 47th over, Shami came back stronger by cleaning him up. Then off his last over, he picked up the wickets of Matthew Short and Sean Abbott courtesy clever change of pace. First up, Short was caught at mid-wicket and two balls later, Abbot chopped on as Shami finished his quota of 10 overs with 5 for 51..!

Dravid's younger son, Anvay is captain of the U14 cricket team for the state.

India head coach Rahul Dravid’s son, Samit has been added to Karnataka’s 15-player squad for the 2023 Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The U-19 tournament, which shall be hosted in Hyderabad, will be played from October 12 to 20.

Samit, who turns 18 on the eve of the competition, had featured for Karnataka in the U14 tournaments before but the upcoming competition shall be his first taste of U-19 cricket. Dravid’s younger son, Anvay is captain of the U14 cricket team for the state.

Dravid Sr. himself had represented the state team not just at the senior level but also at U-15, U-17 and U-19 level, making his Ranji debut during the 1991/92 season.

For the India head coach though, to watch his elder son play in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy will be out of picture owing to the tournament clashing with the 2023 ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5.

Dravid and Co are currently engaged in a three-ODI series against Australia. The KL Rahul led side would beat Australia by five wickets in Mohali to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Jacks, Hain and Rehan star as England go 1-0 up

September 23, 2023

England registered a largely comfortable 48-run win over Ireland in the second ODI at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday (September 23). Young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed registered his career-best ODI figures of 4-54 to derail Ireland's chase and although the visitors added 129 runs for their last three wickets, the result was never in doubt. Earlier in the day, Will Jacks had also got to his highest individual score in ODIs while Sam Hain kickstarted his 50-over career with a fluent 89.

Chasing a competitive target of 335, Ireland started with a bang, much like their opponents in the first half of the game. George Scrimshaw, one of England's four debutants, had a horror beginning due to a flurry of no-balls that allowed Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie to make a brisk start. Boundaries came aplenty, some even off those no-ball and the Free Hits were also duly dispatched. Before England could get a grip of things, Ireland were racing towards 50 well inside four overs.

To his credit, Scrimshaw bounced back and broke the opening partnership with a ripper. He had Balbirnie caught at slip with a lovely delivery and Matthew Potts struck on the first ball of the next over to castle Stirling. These strikes halted Ireland's momentum briefly but Harry Tector kept the scoreboard ticking with his brand of fluid strokeplay. Unfortunately for the visitors, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals despite having a healthy run rate in the chase. The introduction of Rehan then changed the complexion of the game drastically.

In his brief career so far, Rehan has shown the knack to bowl genuine wicket-taking deliveries and while the consistency is a work in progress, he has managed to trouble the best of batters across the various white-ball formats. Ireland had no clue about dealing with his potent googly and fell like a pack of cards to his guile. His spin partner Tom Hartley went wicketless but the left-arm spinner also bowled a tidy spell to put in the squeeze on the tourists. From 103-3, Ireland found themselves on the brink at 157/7.

Statistically, the equation still was gettable with the Trent Bridge surface staying good for the entirety of the game. But the lack of wickets meant that it needed a miracle for England to be beaten. George Dockrell, who had earlier enjoyed a good outing with the ball, led the resistance along with the no. 8-11 as the tourists kept chipping away at the target. England's inexperienced bowling attack struggled to close out the game earlier and barring Brydon Carse, the seamers were quite inconsistent in their spells. Eventually, the scoreboard pressure and the lack of planning from Ireland's batters let them off the hook.

Earlier in the day, England's gen-next batting line-up ended with a strong score but given the platform and surface, they left about 25-30 runs out there. Phil Salt and Ben Duckett were guilty of throwing away their starts but Jacks and Hain ensured that they batted deeper into their respective innings. Duckett and Carse provided the ideal supporting knocks needed to push the score past the 330-run mark. Ireland were indisciplined with the new ball and leaked plenty of runs in the first PowerPlay but came back well thereafter.

Dockrell along with Craig Young were the pick of the bowlers and the latter's twin strikes in his first spell was what allowed Ireland to claw their way back into the game. The visitors kept taking wickets at regular intervals and barring the first 10 overs, generally found the right lengths to ensure that England never ran away with the game completely. The good length deliveries weren't as easy to hit but as is the case with Trent Bridge, the margin for error is also very small for the pacers. Ireland did well to keep England to 334 but in the end, that proved more than enough for the World Champions as they took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a game to spare.

Brief scores: England 334-8 in 50 overs (Will Jacks 94, Sam Hain 89; George Dockrell 3-43, Craig Young 2-38) beat Ireland 286 in 46.4 overs (George Dockrell 43, Barry McCarthy 41; Rehan Ahmed 4-54, George Scrimhaw 3-66) by 48 runs

Ashes 2019,1st Test: Steve Smith Rescues Australia With 144 After Collapse On Day 1

Steve Smith starred on his Test comeback with an impressive knock of 144 and rescued Australia after a batting collapse on the first day of the first Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday. For England, Stuart Broad picked up a five-wicket haul to bowl out Australia for 284 in 80.4 overs. The opening pair of Rory Burns (4*) and Jason Roy (6*) survived two overs as England reached 10 without any loss of wickets at stumps on Day 1.
Australia were in dire straits against England in Birmingham at 122/8 but their last two wickets more than doubled the score and Smith was last man out for 144 in a total of 284.
Rory Burns and Jason Roy then survived two overs as the hosts ended the day on 10/0.
Former captain Smith, who returned to international cricket during the recent World Cup that England won, was subjected to repeated jeers by a partisan crowd.
But he answered the boos in style with his 24th Test century and ninth against England.
"It hasn't really sunk in yet," Smith told BBC Radio. "Obviously been a while since I've been able to put on the whites and the baggy green (cap).
"I'm really proud of the way I was able to stand up today. We were in a bit of trouble there and we had to dig deep on a wicket that wasn't easy."
Australia had slumped to 17/2 when Smith came in to bat after current skipper Tim Paine had won the toss.
Wickets fell steadily but Smith found the ally he needed in Peter Siddle, with the recalled number 10 making a valuable 44 -- the second-best score of the innings -- in a ninth-wicket partnership of 88.
Up until that point it seemed England would not suffer from the absence of James Anderson, England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker, who had only bowled four overs before suffering a right calf injury.
Longtime new-ball partner Stuart Broad took 5/86 in 22.4 overs and fellow paceman Chris Woakes chipped in with 3/58 on his Warwickshire home ground.
But Australia's total may yet be enough to embarrass an England side who collapsed to 85 all out before beating Ireland at Lord's last week.
The fans booed the visitors when they walked out for the pre-match anthem ceremony with Australia's XI containing Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft -- the three players banned following the ball-tampering incident that took place during a Test against South Africa in Cape Town in March 2018.
Dangerous left-handed opener Warner was lbw to Broad for two and did not bother with a review, even though technology suggested the ball would have missed leg stump.
As the cheers from the crowd at an early wicket died down, Warner was subjected to a prolonged chorus of boos on his walk back to the pavilion, with spectators waving strips of sandpaper and shouting "cheerio".
Fellow opener Bancroft, who actually applied sandpaper to the ball at Newlands, then fell for eight when he edged an excellent Broad delivery to England captain Joe Root at first slip.
The combination of Bancroft departing and Smith walking in to bat prompted even louder jeers from what has long been England's most raucous home crowd.

Twitter Amazed As Jofra Archer's Freaky "Prediction" On Prithvi Shaw Comes To Surface After Four Years

Jofra Archer's cryptic tweet four years ago was interpreted as a forecast of Prithvi Shaw being banned for failing a dope test.

Twitter Amazed As Jofra Archer

England fast bowler Jofra Archer's four-year-old tweet has taken the social media by storm as many fans believe that he had predicted, back in September 2015, the suspension of young Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw. After the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday handed Prithvi Shaw an eight-month suspension for doping violation, fans discovered the freaky "prediction" made by the Barbadian-born English cricketer four years ago. "Unlucky shaw," Jofra Archer had said in a tweet

Fans, mostly Indians, flooded the tweet with fresh comments soon after getting the news of Shaw's suspension. Some of the replies eventually turned into jokes.
"Abe kya khata hai?! (what do you eat?)," said a user, while another one joined in saying: "Is there anything this guy hasn't tweeted ? I don't think so.

According to the media release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shaw had inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups.
Shaw's eight-month period of ineligibility will be deemed to have started to run from March 16, 2019 to November 15.
This is not the first time when Archer's old tweet has come to surface. The 24-year-old had posted many such strange predictions back in 2015 which came to the surface during the World Cup 2019.
Archer was part of the England team that defeated New Zealand amid dramatic circumstances to lift their maiden World Cup at Lord's on July 14, 2019.
After the final match and super over both ended in ties, hosts England were crowned as champions on the basis of a superior boundary-count tie-breaker rule, set by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

England Seek A 'Double' As Australia Eye Ashes History

England will be looking to round off an already memorable season by completing a World Cup and Ashes double

England Seek A

England return to 'Fortress Edgbaston' for the first Test against Australia on Thursday looking to round off an already memorable season by completing a World Cup and Ashes double. If the World Cup remains the pinnacle of the 50-over game, for England and Australia there's nothing quite like a renewal of Test cricket's oldest rivalry. But now there's arguably more at stake for both sides than the series result. For England, a home season billed as the most important in a generation started brilliantly with their impressive run to a first men's World Cup title.
International cricket in Britain emerged from behind its satellite television paywall for the first time since the celebrated 2005 Ashes so that millions could watch England's nerve-shredding Super Over win against New Zealand at Lord's earlier this month.
Building on that groundswell of support is a key part of the England and Wales Cricket Board's post-tournament strategy. Regaining the Ashes represents an ideal chance to keep those new followers on board, even if none of the five Tests are on free-to-air television.
For Australia, an Ashes series win under the dignified leadership of Tim Paine would help draw a line under the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa that led to long bans for former captain Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.
All three batsmen are likely to feature at Edgbaston, with Bancroft set to hear the same booing that greeted Smith and Warner during the World Cup.
Australia have not won an Ashes in England for 19 years, with their batsmen struggling against the heavily stitched Dukes ball on pitches that offer seam movement.
Yet the first Test will be Australia's opening first-class match of the tour, although the likes of Bancroft, who has been captaining English county side Durham, have recent experience of local conditions.
The way an England side featuring several World Cup stars were dismissed for just 85 by Ireland at Lord's last week before winning the first Test between the countries tells its own story of ongoing top-order woes.
England captain Joe Root plans to move back to number three to help shore up a top order featuring novice Surrey openers Rory Burns and Jason Roy.
James Anderson, England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker, is set to return from a calf injury to lead an attack that could feature World Cup hero Jofra Archer.
'Keep the energy going'
Australia, meanwhile, are poised to put their faith in a rapid four-man attack featuring James Pattinson and Pat Cummins.
Several of England's World Cup winners appeared jaded against Ireland but Anderson, who no longer plays one-day internationals and so was not involved in that success, hopes he can revive any flagging spirits.
"For some of us this is the start of our international summer and it's our job to keep the energy going as a team," said Anderson, 37 on Tuesday.
With runs expected to be at premium while the bowlers hold sway, England will hope all-rounders such as Ben Stokes, restored to the vice-captaincy, can again make valuable contributions with the bat.
Australia have not won at Edgbaston in any format since 2001, a run that includes their recent World Cup semi-final loss to England, when Roy made a sparkling 85.
England, by contrast, have won their last 11 internationals at the raucous Birmingham ground.
But a congested schedule, the result of officials cramming an Ashes into the same season as a lengthy World Cup, could have a bigger bearing on the series, the first in the ICC's new World Test Championship.
"I really believe it's a big ask for the fast bowlers on both sides to play five Tests in six weeks," said Australia great Steve Waugh, the victorious captain in the 2001 Ashes, who is mentoring the current squad.
"Depth in the squad will be important but I honestly think if I was a betting man I wouldn't back either side because I don't know who's going to win,,,,,

Prithvi Shaw, who was suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for eight months for doping violation on Tuesday, released a detailed statement on his Twitter handle. While maintaining that he consumed the prohibited substance inadvertently via a over the counter cough syrup, Shaw wrote, "I accept my fate with all sincerity". Shaken with the news of his ban, Shaw expressed hope that his ban will inspire other athletes to be careful about the drug they consume.
According to the media release from the BCCI, Prithvi Shaw's eight-month period of ineligibility will be deemed to have started to run from March 16, 2019 to November 15.
The BCCI had earlier in a statement said, "Shaw had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI's anti-doping testing program during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on February 22, 2019 in Indore. His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain Terbutaline. Terbutaline, a specified substance, is prohibited both In & Out of Competition in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances.
"On July 16th 2019, Shaw was charged with the commission of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under the BCCI Anti-Doping Rules (ADR) Article 2.1 and provisionally suspended pending determination of the charge. Shaw responded to the charge by admitting the ADRV but asserting that it was inadvertent, being caused by his ingestion of the over the counter cough syrup he had taken for his cough," the statement added.

Imam-ul-Haq, Pakistan's opening batsman, was recently accused of having multiple affairs after a Twitter user on July 25 leaked various Whatsapp chats of the cricketer with several girls. The 23-year-old opening batsman "admitted his mistake" and apologised to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). "Imam was remorseful and has apologised for what all has happened and admitted his mistake. He said the matter got out of hand due to a misunderstanding," geo.tv quoted PCB Managing Director, Wasim Khan as saying.
"But we told him in clear terms that, although this is his personal and private matter, we expect our players to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and discipline," he added.
Wasim Khan added that the board takes these type of matters very seriously, saying centrally contracted players are expected to be more responsible.
"We don't like to comment on personal affairs of a player but we expect that our centrally contracted players will also show more responsibility being ambassadors of Pakistan cricket and Pakistan," Khan said.
"Hopefully we will not see such incidents again," he added.
Earlier, Imam-ul-Haq landed himself in a controversy after a Twitter user accused him of having affairs with several girls and cheating on them.
The user had leaked his WhatsApp chats with several girls alleging that the cricketer had exploited them.
Imam was the part of the Pakistani cricket team during the recently-concluded ICC Men's Cricket World Cup where Pakistan finished fifth in the points table, failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the showpiece event.

Sri Lanka To Dedicate Third Bangladesh ODI To Nuwan Kulasekara

Sri Lanka will dedicate Wednesday's third one-day international against Bangladesh to fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara who recently announced his retirement from international cricket. Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement on Monday it would invite the bowler to witness the game at the R. Premadasa Stadium, and arrange a ceremony to honour him for services he had rendered for the country's cricket. "Nuwan Kulasekara has been a vital cog in the Lankan lineup and played exceptional cricket during his time with the national team," said Shammi Silva, President of the SLC.
Kulasekara made his Sri Lanka debut with an ODI against England in 2003 and played a key part in Sri Lanka's T20 Men's World Cup victory in 2014.
He was a vital member of the Sri Lanka team, who entered the 2011 Men's Cricket World Cup final against India, and was the top-ranked bowler in the ICC ODI rankings for over six months in 2009.
He played last of 184 ODIs against Zimbabwe in July 2017 and was not selected in any of the format since then.
Last week star Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga retired after the first match of the series against Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka lead the three-match series 2-0, thanks to 91-run and seven-wicket win in the first two matches.
Bangladesh will wear black armbands in the third game to pay respect to the country's first captain Shamim Kabir.
Kabir, who led the national team against an international opponent in their first match against MCC in January 1977, died of cancer on Monday.
