Australia and South Africa will resume their rivalry on Sunday when the two teams will face each other in the first of the three ODI matches of the series. This is the first series that these two teams will be playing after the ball-tampering saga that took place in Newlands during the third Test of the series earlier this year. The action of Cameron Bancroft saw him being banned along with Steven Smith and David Warner, whose services will be missed by Australia for the next five months more.
Australia look a weakened side in their absence and under a new captain, Aaron Finch, Kangaroos will have a steep task. Finch has had led the team in past in ODIs but this is the first time when he will lead Australia as a full-time captain. He wil be opening the innings without his regular partner Warner. The Australian skipper did not reveal the playing XI during the pre-match presser; thus leaving everyone guessing. In their previous ODI series, which came under Tim Paine, Australia were whitewashed in the five ODIs.
South Africa recently whitewashed Zimbabwe in the three-match ODI series which was an ideal practice for them ahead of the big series against Australia. They kicked off the tour well with a win against Prime Minister’s XI by a margin of four wickets and are expected to defeat Australia at their home. The team wil miss out on the services of JP Duminy and Hashim Amla, who are not a part of the series due to respective injuries.
